Lesson 1
Vedic Mathematics, originally written
in Sanskrit, contains sixteen Sutras
and thirteen sub-sutras.
A SUTRA in Vedic Mathematics means FORMULA
A SUB-SUTRA in Vedic Mathematics means COROLLARY( i.e., a result
based on a formula)
The First SUTRA: EKADHIKENA PURVENA ( aye-ka-dhi-ken p-oor-ve-na)
Meanings of Terms: (1)Ekadhik (2) Purven
(1) EKADHIK
EKADHIK in Vedic Mathematics means one more than , the break up is
as follows:
EK-one
AHDIK- more
SYMBOL : we use a dot ( ) above a digit to represent its Ekadhik
Thus
Ekadhik of 0 is 1 represented as
, that is
= 1
Ekadhik of 1 is 2 represented as
, that is
= 2
Ekadhik of 2 is 3 represented as , that is
= 3
Ekadhik of 3 is 4 represented as
, that is
= 4
Ekadhik of 4 is 5 represented as
, that is
= 5
Ekadhik of 5 is 6 represented as , that is
= 6
Ekadhik of 6 is 7 represented as
, that is = 7
Ekadhik of 7 is 8 represented as
, that is
= 8
Ekadhik of 8 is 9 represented as
, that is
= 9
Also, in case of numbers having more than one digits :
= 24
= 33
= 224,
= 134,
= 125
= 1135,
= 2035,
= 1036,
= 1045
and so on.
IMPORTANT : the Ekadhik of 9 is 10, that is,
= 10.
Thus = 30,
= 40,
= 100,
